It is a perilous time for galleries in London—and beyond. So, to coincide with the inaugural edition of London Gallery Weekend, we set out to explore the real impact of the pandemic on London’s galleries and the steps they are taking to survive. Many see diversification as the key to making a post-pandemic recovery: shifting online, foregoing physical spaces and launching publishing arms. But has the pandemic really forged a new path for galleries, or did it simply accelerate pre-existing ones? We asked the leading gallerists Sadie Coles, Bomi Odufunade, and Jeremy Epstein to help chart a recovery plan for the truly unpredictable future of the art world. The panel was moderated by Louisa Buck, The Art Newspaper’s contemporary art correspondent. It was sponsored by Crozier.
